About Gray Manis
I earned my Bachelor of Social Work degree from the University of Kentucky in 1995, and graduated from the University of Denver in 1996 with a Master of Social Work degree. I have been practicing as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker since 1999. I also have my certification as a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and am a certified EMDR trainer, therapist and consultant.
I was the Executive Director of The Shepherd’s House from 1998-2000, Director of Treatment Services at the Chrysalis House from 2000-2003, and was the Director of Outpatient Services at Ridge Behavioral Health System from 2004-2006. I recently retired as faculty of the University of Kentucky Department of Psychiatry, where I worked serving patients and training psychiatry residents since 2006 as an Assistant Professor, outpatient therapist, and most recently, the Director of Substance Use Treatment Services. I’m also a part-time adjunct instructor in the U.K. College of Social Work where I educate future social work practitioners in providing trauma informed and evidence-based trauma treatments.
I am passionate about working with adults who have experienced trauma and addiction in my clinical practice. My interests include addiction treatment, trauma resolution, internal family systems therapy, hypnosis, and solution-focused therapy. In addition to providing individual therapy, I’m also certified as an EMDR facilitator and consultant and am able to provide clinical supervision through the Kentucky Board of Social Work.
In my spare time, I lead an active life and you can often find me running or cycling outdoors or attending an exercise class at my favorite workout studio. I believe that “mood follows action” and that in addition to helping us feel better physically, exercise is also the single biggest elixir for brain health. I’m also committed to daily transcendental meditation practice.
